In 2013, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I didn’t have any signs, but just a feeling that something was amiss. I visited my General Practitioner and shared with her that I thought I should be checked out. I went to get my mammogram and upon review, they determined that I needed a biopsy. As it was being done, I held onto my yoga practice and tried to breathe through it. When it was completed, they told me it would be 3 days before the results would be delivered.
News Delivery Day, I went to my village to grab some lunch and was ordering at the counter when my phone rang. Unapologetically and extremely sterile, they said, we have your results and you have Breast Cancer. You know in the movies when someone gets bad news and the world starts spinning? That was me. Soon after, I was sitting on my front porch looking at my sidewalk. I decided I was going to battle cancer and that there were two choices in front of me. Go kicking and screaming or do cartwheels. I chose the later and decided this was my gift to shift.
Throughout my life, art has been a means for me to express and heal. For this reason, I chose the organization Kids & Art to donate a certain percentage of my profits. Kids & Art uses the power of the arts and creativity to mitigate stress, anxiety, and trauma induced from diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and other critical medical conditions as it will allow them to concentrate or focus towards their creative side and forget about the illness.
I have two Himalayan Cats, Sophie and Cody, who are 19 year old siblings and the loves of my life. They both have special medical needs and I feel so fortunate to have available to me the best veterinarian care from the Community Pet Healthcare Team in Zionsville, Indiana.
Upon a visit, I was waiting in the examining room and saw a whiteboard that had a small saying about our pets. There were some markers and I decided to doodle to show how I feel they about their care. I had a follow up visit scheduled and decided to create this doodle to give it to them to show my appreciation for their genuine care.
The whiteboard drawing is still there and animal owners have made it fun by signing the board with their pet’s name!
As an animal lover, I offer a few originals with a percentage of proceeds to go Local Animal Charities.
Life just wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for our furry friends!
